Nestled in the grassy Sierra Foothills of Auburn sits Mt. Vernon Winery, a small vineyard and winery owned and operated by the Taylor family since 1996. Here you’ll not only find exceptional, award-winning wines, but also a tasting room situated inside a beautifully restored 1950s-era milk house, an inviting wine cave that serves as an elegant setting for dinners and events, and a tranquil “island” at the convergence of two protected streams. It’s the ideal setting in which to sit under a shade tree, enjoy a sumptuous bottle of wine or refreshing glass of hard cider, and listen to birds singing and the babbling of the creeks … and some live music.

Mt. Vernon’s annual Wine Club Island Concert Series returns this year for an outstanding lineup of live outdoor concerts, taking place two Saturday nights a month from now through November 5, and showcasing an exciting variety of talented musical artists.

From 6 – 9 p.m., wine club members and first-time visitors alike can enjoy live music on Mt. Vernon’s pastoral “island,” where umbrellas top an array of picnic tables, inviting guests to linger and savor the winery’s award-winning varietals — voted “Best of the Best” 19 years in a row, for both best winery and best wines — as well as distinctive champagnes or hard ciders, which are served in an old-fashioned tap inside its unique “jail house” bar. Delicious barbecue dinners from G Pon Catering, whose offerings are available at the winery every Saturday and Sunday afternoon, also will be available to purchase on concert nights, including smoked short ribs, barbecued chicken, and prime rib dinners.

Beat the heat on Mt. Vernon’s pastoral property, which is lined with mature trees for shade and equipped with cooling misters, and enjoy exploring the winery, with its footbridges, historic buildings and decorative touches, and blooming flowers.

On the property’s new soundstage, the Taylors promise an incredible lineup of musical guests for this year’s series, including:
- Sacramento’s own all-original blues artists, Val Starr & the Blues Rockets
- Musical Stylings of Dave Land, a San Francisco-based singer/songwriter who performs country-infused vintage rock and roll.
- Will Derryberry, the composer whose instrumental work has accompanied some of your favorite commercials, films, and TV shows, including NBC’s Friday Night Lights
- Darin Talbot, a cover artist whose broad range of talents include the work of some of your favorite artists, from Jimmy Buffett, America, and Bob Dylan to Dave Matthews, Bob Marley, and Ed Sheeran
- Fun-loving rock-and-roll cover artists the Thunderhug Band
- Gene Barnett, performing feel-good acoustic guitar hits
This summer, discover the relaxing beauty of wine’s perfect pairing — live music! Don’t miss this exciting concert series. For information about tickets and pricing, email Wineclubmtvernonwinery@gmail.com.
